CCA Tashkent Artist Residencies: Sharing Vision, Craft, and Creativity

Over the past month, our Artist Residents at CCA Tashkent have made invaluable contributions, sharing their artistic vision, expertise, and craftsmanship with the community. Their work reflects a deep engagement with innovative practice and cross-disciplinary exploration.

Jamila Sadat is an accomplished Afghan artist specialising in illumination (Tazhib), calligraphy, and manuscript preservation. She has over a decade of experience in traditional Afghan and Persian decorative arts, including major projects such as the Makkah Al-Mukarramah Calligraphy Project and the Silk Holy Qur’an Project. During her residency, Jamila continues to share her expertise and passion with the CCA community.

Attia Shiraz is an independent curator based in London, exploring intersections of visual arts, music, and the cultural histories of South Asia and its diaspora. She recently curated Awaken: Sufi Music & Women of South Asia (2024), combining Mughal miniature painting with music, poetry, and ritual practices. At CCA, Attia engages audiences through research-driven projects and cross-disciplinary dialogue.

Sarvinoz Melikuzieva is a visual artist and painter from Uzbekistan, blending traditional and contemporary approaches to her practice. She has exhibited internationally and won awards including a gold medal at the Shahrisabz International Art Festival (2023). During her residency, Sarvinoz continues to develop her artistic vision while sharing her knowledge as a researcher and educator.

Through these residencies, CCA Tashkent fosters a vibrant exchange of ideas and techniques, supporting artists in their creative journeys while enriching the local and international arts community. The programme continues to highlight the importance of experimentation, collaboration, and meaningful engagement with art.
